A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit Charles the Potter with a group of ladies. He is THE best potter in Lagos. It was surprisingly fascinating to see how pottery is done from start to end and without any bells and whistles/machinery that may be privileged to others. At the end of his demo he asked if anyone wanted to try making a pot. I of course jumped up with excitement! And boy, was I aweful!! Ha! Charles is going to finish my pot, engrave it with my name and gift it to me. How sweet!! (Thank heavens he’s doing the finishing touches though! Now I’ll be able to display it without people looking at it and asking me what in the hell it is!) I will say, I have a full appreciation for the work and talent and time that goes into pottery. Pottery is so beautiful and worth every penny.
